Deep relaxed focus - which allows access to the subconscious mind - so that we can pull out any 'weeds' & plant empowering seeds for growth
It's not about pendulums or anyone else controlling your mind, so you don't have to worry about being made to do or think anything you don't want to! Pendulums were used as a method of focus. Focus is important for Hypnotherapy to work.
Hypnotherapy is made up of two words;
Hypnosis - a deepened state of focused concentration and relaxation - easily accessible through breath, body and thought awareness.
Therapy - a remedy intended to relieve, heal and support.
In the state of Hypnosis, the mind becomes open and receptive to new ideas and suggestions, changing how you think, feel and ultimately the way you behave. Hypnotherapy is about changing the subconscious mind where all your fears, bad habits, phobias and limiting beliefs are stored— and is very useful in enhancing personal development and unlocking inner potential.
What to expect
Don't expect to feel zonked out. If you're able to let go and trust, you'll feel alert, yet deeply relaxed and calm. What you'll experience is similar to a light state of meditation.
Focus & Relaxation
To access this calm and relaxed space I guide you to focus on your breath and body sensations, giving tips on how to deal with distracting thoughts. The success of Hypnotherapy will depend largely on your ability to let go of the conscious mind, and to trust your own subconscious like a good friend. When you let go, you'll be able to use all of your senses to visualise what I'm suggesting.
The subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between a real and imagined experience! That's why guided meditations - where you imagine being in a serene place, work. They make you feel serene. Hypnotherapy works in a similar way.
Suggestions & Affirmations
The words I use during hypnosis are your words. This is because the words you use, and the way you express yourself will have much more impact on your subconscious mind than my words ever could. In the first session we’ll talk about what you specifically want. I listen and note how you express this, then create your unique personal hypnotherapy script.
How long does it take?
Usually one hour, starting with a brief chat.

How Hypnotherapy works
If we compare the mind to the image of an iceberg, the tiny amount above the surface represents the conscious mind. The vast bulk below the surface is your subconscious mind. (Also known as the Unconscious Mind).

The Conscious mind’s language is logic
- What you are aware of right now, where you spend most of your time. It has 4 functions;
1) Will Power
Including the suppression of emotions, which can get transformed into stress and illness.
Changing habits with the conscious mind is more difficult because it doesn't address the subconscious issues involved.
2) Temporary or working memory
3) Analytical Thought Process
A deliberate process which looks at problems and finds solutions.
4) Rational Thinking
Reasons why we do the things we do, such as with bad habits . . . "It relaxes me".
The Subconscious mind’s language is imagination
- Includes everything you are unaware of that makes up your decision making process. Everything you've learned since you were born, habits like answering a phone, brushing or grinding your teeth and biting your nails.
It's also the domain of;
1) Your permanent memory
2) Emotions - love, anger etc.
3) Your personal protection or 'security system'.
The conscious mind has no control over your permanent memory and its associated sounds, smells, images and feelings. Your subconscious mind remembers everything.
Both are involved in decision making— your upbringing, education, values, belief systems and all your life experiences work together quickly to decide to do something, to avoid something, be afraid of something or to enjoy something.
When there's a conflict, imagination always wins. Your subconscious mind is the boss. We think we're only making conscious choices though are mostly unaware of what drives these choices.
Drawing back the Curtain
Usually your conscious mind is in the foreground, and your subconscious mind is in the background.
Between the two is a filter called The Conscious Critical Faculty.
The critical faculty is critical of any information coming into your conscious mind before it’s allowed to enter your subconscious mind— and therefore enter your belief system or programming.
During Hypnosis the conscious critical faculty is moved aside so that you can access the non-critical subconscious mind— just like drawing back a curtain, you can view what was previously covered.
You can more deeply understand your memories, their associated imagery, feelings, your defense mechanisms and why you behave in certain ways. You can also introduce positive ideas and suggestions to make long lasting changes in your beliefs, thoughts, habits, behaviour and health.
Normally, in every situation you encounter, your conscious critical faculty filters out all the information that doesn't fit in with your belief system. It does this by comparing it with your present knowledge base (everything you've already learned in your life)— including all the limiting beliefs you presently have about yourself. This is designed to protect you, so that you stay safe by trusting only the tried and tested. It can also hinder you from positive growth and change.
Children don't have a developed critical faculty, so seeds can be planted easily there - whether useful or not. This is why any trauma from our childhood deeply affects the way we think, feel and behave.
Anyone can be hypnotised if they want to be. We’ve all been in trance states before. Have you ever been absorbed in thought while driving on automatic pilot? The subconscious knows how to drive if you’ve learned to.
Have you ever cried during a sad film? Your conscious mind knows it's only a story, but the critical faculty has been bypassed due to relaxed focus, so your subconscious mind influences your emotions.
Hypnotherapy has been recognised since 1955 by the British Medical Association as an approved treatment. It can treat fears, weight loss, anxiety, panic attacks, improve confidence, self-worth, eliminate creative blocks, increase motivation, ease pregnancy and birth, eliminate bad habits, addictions & whatever you are open to changing or enhancing.
